About This

• THE BASE IS A STORAGE UNIT: this guinea pig cage ships with three fabric bins that sit in cubbies under the platform, each with a carry handle, so you pull the whole bin out instead of digging past what is on top. Hay in one, pellets in the second, fleece liners and cleaning gear in the third, and the open floor above leaves room for a hideout, a hay rack and a water bottle. Most guinea pig cages with storage sell that shelf separately; here the cage and supply shelf share one footprint.
• 0.67 IN DENSE GRID, NOT 1 IN STOCK PANELS: the tight spacing keeps dwarf hamsters, gerbils and young rats from squeezing through or getting stuck, which is the failure mode of generic grid cages. Rounded connectors leave no sharp edges, a wire section covers part of the top for jumpers, and the walls rising another foot above the floor discourage the rest. Zip-tie the stress points and the frame stops rattling.
• COUNTER HEIGHT, NOT KNEE HEIGHT: this guinea pig cage stands on a raised platform about 12 inches off the ground, so feeding, spot cleaning and picking your animal up happen standing or sitting, not kneeling on the carpet. Raised living space also suits prey species: at eye level they watch the room instead of bolting for a hide every time someone walks past.
• WHAT ARRIVES IN THE BOX: everything for a complete C&C cage, including black wire grid panels, rounded corner connectors, nylon zip ties, a wooden mallet, a rigid waterproof base with its PVC liner, and three fabric storage bins. Assembly runs about twenty minutes with nothing but the mallet, and zip-tying the corners turns the panels into one rigid frame instead of a stack of loose grids.
• MEASURE BEFORE YOU ORDER: 35.5 x 24 in is the footprint at the outside of the frame. Inside, the rigid lined floor is about 33 x 22 in, roughly 5.0 sq ft [VERIFY]. That fits one guinea pig, a pair of dwarf hamsters or gerbils, or a hedgehog, and this cage suits an apartment corner or another small space. If two guinea pigs will live in it full time, buy a 42 x 28 in cage or larger instead.
